Wikipedia has the “traditional timing of the Dog Days as the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, coinciding with the ancient helical (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius.” Meaning that we should be out of them now. However, it also has the Book of Common Prayer finishing them on August 17.
“Dog Days can also define a time period … marked by dull lack of progress.” Yes, indeed.
While contemplating this, I came across a rather graphically apropos story: Giant Dog Turd Wreaks Havoc at Swiss Museum: “A giant inflatable dog turd created by the American artist Paul McCarthy was blown from its moorings at a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a window before landing in the grounds of a children’s home.
The exhibit, entitled Complex Shit, is the size of a house.”
It is, I know, the last refuge of the struggling blog to quote the search terms by which people arrive. But “Superior Donuts” is too marvellous not to pass on. I hope you found what you wanted here. (Wednesday’s highlight was “shinto golders green”).
One more thing: Director Boy has started writing Confessions of a Director which is very much more lively than my London life at the moment.
This is a great new toy. I created this word-cloud of the blog using wordle.
